Ubisoft Loosens PC DRM

Many of you may remember the controversy behind Ubisoft's always on DRM (Digital Rights Management) that required a constant Internet connection to play a game. If the connection was lost the game would automatically be paused. Luckily, Ubisoft has softened its grip on your ability to play a game you paid for.

The DRM no longer needs a constant connection to the net, instead it checks Ubisoft's servers on startup and can then be played without fear of losing connection and your game being paused. Games like Assassin's Creed II and Splinter Cell: Conviction were among some of the games affected by this DRM.

It's great to see Ubisoft moving in this direction and hopefully removing DRM entirely one day. As I've said before, DRM hurts the honest user, not the pirate (as they always crack and don't have to worry about the restrictions).
