IO Interactive Pledges More Accessible Hitman, Angers Fans

Hitman fans are enraged over the fact that IO Interactive want to make Hitman: Absolution a more accessible game but that's what IO says they promise to do:

"The Hitman games of the past have been very hardcore. Even though the fantasy of the Hitman universe has a very universal appeal, the games have been so difficult to play, that it's been more of an acquired taste. The biggest challenge that we had with this game was to make it much broader in every sense, so that it was easier to play and more accessible, but still retain a very strong, hardcore side as well," explained director Tore Blystad.

He goes on to say, "We don't want to alienate any of our fans who have been extremely loyal for so many years," but that's exactly what they did, alienate fans. One fan said, "I cheer every time a developer decides to add depth and challenge into their sequels instead of removing it. Needless to say I don't cheer very often these days." Another said, "Blood Money - and many of its predecessors, aside from the first few games - were extremely accessible. They just required a modicum of thought. The way the announcement is presented, it seems as if they're removing all possibility for the players to use their grey matter in any substantial way..." This won't be the end for the franchise though, it's possible that the changes they make actually improve the overall Hitman experience.

I've never had the pleasure of playing a Hitman game but it always felt rough around the edges to me. Maybe this change in philosophy will smooth out those edges for me.
